Your CV is one of the first impressions you give our recruiters as part of your application, and with thousands of applications received every year for our programmes, students are always keen to know how they can stand out.
In the early stages of your career, many people will have little work experience, so our recruiters have offered some tips and advice on what to include on your CV so we can get to know you better beyond just your academic qualifications.
- Try to capture the recruiters attention in 10 seconds – well structured and thought out format so the recruiter can easily read your information, and ensure your CV is no longer than one page long
- Include a short statement at the top of your CV to highlight your interest and motivations for applying to one of our programmes
- Do not include photos and ensure you use a professional sounding email address
- Include details of modules you have taken at university that are related to the programme you are applying for
- Demonstrate your interest in Finance – this can include societies you are part of, free courses you may have done online, events that you have attended
- Share interests that make you unique – running your own business on the side, being part of a sports team, volunteering or mentoring, being part of an expedition or tour, awards you may have won
- Highlight your transferable skills from extra curricular activities you may participate in e.g leadership skills, working as part of a team, projects you may have been involved in or events you may have helped organised, part-time jobs you have had
- Make use of online templates, and review examples of CV’s to help guide you on what you should include
Last but not least, once you have completed writing your CV, make sure you proofread it and check for spelling or grammatical errors, and that you have used the right company or programme name if relevant. It may be worth considering asking a friend or relative to review it and provide feedback.
Best of luck with your applications!
